As rumours about the pending launch of a new Adele album continue to grow, Glenn Dunlea examines some of the possible outcomes of a new release.
- A Lot of People Will be Very Happy
At this stage it has been almost five years since Adele last released an album. Since then, quite a lot of people have been waiting very impatiently for new one. With 21 receiving well over 10,000,000 album sales, it would be very fair to assume that any new material would only surpass this, and quite possibly break several sales records in the process. One would imagine that fans would only be elated at the prospect of some new ballads, while managers, producers and sellers would all be very content with a new release earning them in excess of £70,000,000.
- A Lot of People Will Be Very Upset
With so many die-hard fans out there, it’s difficult to imagine that anyone would be miffed by some new music from one of this generations most-successful musicians. But by-golly you’d be wrong. A lot of Adele fans have lamented the thought of any further releases from the artist, citing the fact that nothing else could possibly emulate or surpass the work she has already produced. Others simply cannot stand Adele and would much prefer never to hear her sing another note again.
- There’ll Be No Surprises Come Awards Season
Time and again Adele has displayed her prowess at sweeping the board come awards season. There is little doubt that a new release would see similar results for the multi-award winning artist, which makes for repetitive viewing (although Adele’s acceptance speeches rarely disappoint, especially when it comes to providing images for a semi-humorous piece for a college media publication).
- Potential New Breakup Anthems
As the cold winter nights draw in, it will be comforting to know that we can always listen to some new music that will remind us that we are not the only ones sitting home alone eating copious amounts of food and consuming a scandalous amount of wine alone. However, there is a terrifying prospect that comes with a potential new Adele album: happiness. I know. Since 21 Adele has found love, given birth to a child, and spent her time generally settling into family life. Be prepared to replace Adele’s trademark heartbreak songs with tunes about tucking in her newborn after a quiet night at home with the family enjoying her all to enviable life.
- The End of The (Music) World As We Know It
Of course this one is a bit of a long shot. But think about it. Adele’s previous two albums have both led to dramatic shifts in what we consider popular music genres, and have influenced countless musicians and their songwriting. There is little doubt that any new music from Adele will have a huge influence on the current music scene, and will heavily dictate the direction that popular music will take next.
At the moment, I have heard a lot of rumors stating that Adele’s new album, 25 (Adele is 27 now by the way, so you shall have to work that one out for yourself I’m afraid), is due for release on the 20th of November. If this is true, and unless the music on it is a pile of complete tripe, which seems unlikely, a lot of the above might just prove true.
