UCC’s Choral Society will raise funds for Cork ARC Cancer Support with their annual Sounds of Spring Concert.
UCC’s Choral Society will present their annual Spring Concert, Sounds of Spring, this Friday the 15th of April at 8 PM in the Aula Maxima, UCC.
This year, all proceeds raised in ticket sales and donations for the concert will be donated to local charity Cork ARC Cancer Support.
Cork ARC Cancer Support was established to provide a holistic centre in which people with cancer and their families can find emotional support, practical help and trust. Their aim is to provide therapies that complement the medical model and adhere to best practice, so as to make a difference to the lives of those affected by cancer.
Cork ARC is a voluntary organisation, and serves the people and communities of Cork, West Cork, North Kerry, South Kerry, Limerick and Waterford. They offer one-to-one support, bereavement support, a drop-in centre, support groups, education evenings, information on general welfare and benefit entitlements.
This years Sounds of Spring concert brings to a close a phenomenal year for UCC’s Choral Society. After welcoming new conductor Daniel Beuster last September, the society enjoyed a fantastic first semester, which included the first ever Choral Week, and the society’s annual Carols By Candlelight concert, a perennial favourite in UCC.
The society only recently welcomed home their international choir, who took part in the 27th Annual Verona Choral Festival in Italy, where they successfully won a Gold Standard award for extreme excellence, placing ahead of various other choirs from around Europe, the United States, and the People’s Republic of China.
This year has also marked another highly successful one for UCC Choral Society’s competitive choir, UCC Singers, who placed second in the Sligo International Choral Festival last November, .5% of a mark behind the winners NUIG. UCC Singers were also asked to perform by representatives of the Heineken Company at a staff function, and were first place winners in their category at Feis Maitiú 2016. The choir will next compete at the Cork International Choral Festival, at which they won first place last year.
Sounds of Spring 2016 will feature performances by UCC’s Choral Society, the Gold award winning Verona 2016 International Choir, UCC Singers, as well as a medley of soloists.
Tickets cost €10, or €8 with a concession and are available from the UCC Visitor’s Centre in the North Wing.
